7 Stress Busters To Help You Manage Stress
1. Flood Your Mind With Positive Thoughts
Stress management is all about taking charge of the thoughts you think. I’m sure you would agree with me that it is kind of hard to always think positive. However, that’s a fantastic way to bust stresses.
When you’re positive, you live a more balanced life and you worry less. Keep in mind I am not saying positive thinking will immediately make your problems go away. But, it will help you deal with them more effectively.
Positive thinking is what can enable you to reframe your mindset in a way that helps you handle your toughest problems. It’s also how you can keep your sanity during stressful times.
2. Be Grateful In Spite Of Your Situation
Not long ago, I read something about gratitude that makes a lot of sense to me. “Gratitude makes what you have enough.” As simple as it sounds, it is a powerful statement. I coached a young lady who got a very nice promotion and pay raise at work.
But, she complained to me about her co-worker who got the same promotion with an offer to make way more money than her.
I immediately encouraged my client to stop comparing what she has with what someone else has. I gave her a new and fresh perspective. In just a few minutes, she snapped and realized that she was not being grateful. I instantly shifted her attitude.
Count your blessings. I encourage you to write down all the thinks in your life that you are grateful for. If you hate your job, do not start the morning complaining about your job. Instead, be thankful that you have a job.
3. Be Kind To Yourself
When I say be kind to yourself, I am talking about your health. An effective stress management program begins with sound health. it’s easy for stress to attack a weak and sick body.
The first thing to do is to drastically slow down on your alcohol, sugar and caffeine intake. They can wear you out. There is a reason why most people reach for candies and other sweets when they are stressed out.
They are looking for a quick jolt. Unfortunately, a crash always follows the quick jolt.
Make sure you have a good exercise routine in place. I’m a runner. Whenever I work hard in the office or I’m having a stressful day, I take the time to go for a run. After my run, I always feel great and more relaxed.
You see, your brain needs oxygen to function properly. Make sure you give it a good supply everyday.
4. Take Time to Relax
Make sure you take enough time to relax. Listen to your favorite music. Sometimes just laying down and letting your mind quietly wander away is all you need for relaxation. You might consider doing so while take a nice bubble bath.
In fact, you should make an appointment with yourself to spend some quiet time alone. That’s called “me-time.” Just cast your cares in the open and let you mind go blank.
5. Reward Your Body With Proper Sleep
This should be obvious. But, it’s not always that obvious for most people. As you might know, sleep deprivation can cause major stress.
I happen to believe that proper sleep is one of the most powerful stress busters. Typically, people try all kinds of ways to stay awake. They drink coffee or energy drinks. But, the body knows when it needs sleep.
Yes, you can use all kinds of stimulants to stay awake. However, when your body really wants rest and sleep, there’s nothing you can really do about it. It’s either you obey or pay the consequences.
6. Organized Your Life
When there’s chaos on the outside, there’s usually chaos on the inside. A cluttered life means a cluttered mind as well. The truth is, you cannot practice positive thinking with a cluttered mind.
Make a daily “to do” list to make sure you get things done in an orderly manner. Nothing is more satisfying than checking things of your list. It’s a great way to boost your confidence.
Finally, make sure you block time on your calendar every weekend to de-clutter. Get rid of things that are taking up space. Simplify your life. You are not going to take anything with you on the last day of your life. Why not get rid of them now.
7. Take Time To Enjoy Your Life
Enjoying your life should never be the last thing on your list. You must treat and pamper yourself every now and then. Your life should not be just about work. You also have to play.
Dance around the living room with your kids and be silly. Go on little trips with your significant other. Go to comedy clubs for some good laughs. Please enjoy your life now so you don’t regret it later.
These are the 7 most effective stress busters to help you eliminate stresses in your life. I’m not saying you have to apply all seven of them at once. But, slowly you can embrace each one until they become second nature.
Take care of yourself!
